I know it probably sounds a little sad that a video game made me feel this badly just by being let down by it's story, but I've grown up along side these games. Seeing how absolutely half assed the story was, how horribly fleshed out it was, how many amazing opportunities they missed, etc just left me feeling horrible. Like, I've been let down by games before in one way or another, but I honestly felt what was almost like, depression for the first few days after finishing it? Just because I knew this would be the last true MGS probably, and certainly the last Kojima worked on. As a long-time MGS fan it REALLY REALLY REALLY let me down for a story perspective. After all that, you kind of just don't even tell him until literally the LAST minute that you're getting someone else to voice the character who he will be forever associated with?Īt least that's how it went by Hayter's account. Not only that, but he (Hayter) took a MAJOR pay cut in Twin Snakes so that they could afford to bring back all the original cast members to re-voice their parts. The man has voiced the leading character in what is without a doubt the series of games that made YOU, a fucking game dev, almost a house hold name at this point. Love the work Kojima does, and hate how Konami treated him at the end, but I'll say that I did lose respect for him in how he handled the Hayter thing. We know the man's a HUGE film buff, so it's not far to assume otherwise. Truth is, and as much as I love Kojima it needs to be said, that Hayter was only scrapped because it was probably Kojima's wet dream to have a high profile actor play one of his most famous characters.
